I don’t know why it takes locking my mouth shut to make me feel more chatty, but here I am. I had my wisdom teeth out yesterday, and I am confined to the couch with an ice pack and a towel to catch my bloody drool in case I fall asleep with my mouth open.
Hot, I know.
I’m putting out a warning now, I’m having a hard time focusing on one particular subject. I’m sincerely hoping this is due to the three bottles of assorted pills in front of me, and not through a new developing trait in me.
It’s been a while since I’ve gotten back into this, but I figure now is as good a time as ever.
It’s about midnight. I’m watching Conan. Jennifer Aniston has incredibly shiny hair. How does she do it?
I’ve been dreading having my teeth pulled for some time now, so in a way, I’m grateful the actual “pulling” is behind me. But I must say, recovery is no fun either. The jaw pain. The hunger. The sensitivity to…everything. The hand shaped bruising on the upper arms? Apparently I’m a anesthesia fighter…why else would I come home from a surgery with them? I hope I gave those dentists a good fight. That’ll teach them to chop into me before I’m fully asleep.
Between the leg and the face, I suppose I’ve been a bit mopey lately, which could contribute to my lack of desire to write. I’ve got about a month more to go in the leg brace contraption, and physical therapy has shed some light on some potentially damaged growth plates leading to an accumulated 10 years of compensated off-beat and harmful walking habits. Excellent. All music shows have been postponed and booking has completely stopped, to be picked up in December once I’m a bit more together..and my mouth has fully healed. But, it’s time to pull myself out of the pity party I’ve been loitering in the driveway of, and get on with things, no?
I went out with a strange conglomeration of shows – a double booked and therefore lamely canceled show on Santana Row that ended up costing me thanks to the jerk lending sound gear, a great radio show for KSUN in Sonoma that won an award for most listeners in 210 broadcasts, and a somewhat awkwardly executed show on crutches at a pottery studio.
And now, I’m taking a breather. And many painkillers.
In the meantime, I have been happy to find additional perks of being wheelchair bound. My friends and I were let in 20 minutes early to a small club concert venue, bypassing the trailing line of a few hundred fans who had been waiting in line much longer than we’d ever planned to wait. All I had to do was roll past the venue door for the bouncers to grab me AND my three friends and usher us all in to get a premium spot and merchandise before the waves of rabid fans crashed in. And for the record, Eisley is amazing live, as I knew they would be.
My brain feels like a ping-pong ball.
On a separate and completely unrelated note, my boyfriend had his house broken into today. Credit cards and jewelery stolen. A beer consumed in the kitchen. Drawers and rooms rifled through. Though this person easily could have taken more, what he truly stole was a family’s peace of mind..and that is much harder to replace than a bracelet.
Why is it that there are so many crappy people in the world?
I’m not feeling the most eloquent tonight. Not at all. Perhaps it was the wisdom teeth that helped me out before. I’m just trying to pass the time until this night is over.
I just had a thought of my Nana in Georgia. I know you read these, oh DNA sharer of mine, far far away. It tickles me that you do. And I miss you. I had one nice recovery at your house last year, complete with handicap stickers on my behalf and visits to the local pub with your Sunday School class.. It seems like a tradition we should continue, complete with the chocolate covered curtains. My fault, my fault..
Hmm.
Chocolate sounds good.
Perhaps I’ll gum this piece of bread that’s been sitting beside me for the past three hours, daring me to try it. No no, Mr. Healthy Delight wheat slice with your perfect butter to bread ratio. Don’t think you can defeat me, you wily thing.
