I spent the day today in a flowy white dress, wandering through hills that were covered in wildflowers. Sound strange? I know, it does. But my amazing friend (who just so happens to be the best photographer I’ve ever seen) had the idea to go to a thrift store, find a pretty vintage dress, and go a-traipsing through the hills for some pretty pictures.
The day was full of dark clouds and wind. Apparently, stormy weather makes for great lighting…so says the photographer. But it wasn’t as easy to appreciate it on my end..since the dress was sleeveless and relatively short, and as the wind hit every inch of my exposed skin, goosebumps erupted and raised the hairs on my arms.
Aside from the fun that I had with my friends, I found myself simply marveling at the beauty of the world on this day. I live at the foot of beautiful rolling hills that are currently as green as they will get all year. It was into these wildflower covered hills that we went today..walking barefoot through the wet, bright green grass.
Nothing soothes my soul like the quiet beauty of nature, and today it was on display in its finest. The beautiful sight of a few of my best friends laughing and goofing off high above the city didn’t hurt either. Their voices carried down the hill and into the hay field in the distance down below, turning the heads of a man and his dog.
In our explorations, we found an old broken tractor, the decrepit remains of a tree house, and a 4 foot high mountain of old barbed wire. Great finds, I know.
By the time we were done, my legs were shaking and my fingers were so numb that I had trouble working them in fine enough motions to pick up my shoes and open my car door.
We had to de-thaw at Starbucks, and then drove home for dry clothes. We then proceeded to drive to the next city for some authentic Indian food, where I can always tell if we’re pronouncing something from the menu wrong when the cashier’s mouth quirks up just so.
Sometimes, at the end of the day you just sit down and think, “This was a good day.”
Today is one of those days.
